Minister of Recreationoffice: 432-683-0647
How did you arrive at FBC?

I became the Minister of Activities in April 2011…But, Elaine and I have both been a part of FBC Midland since we were babies in the nursery. I graduated from Midland Lee High School in 1992 where I was a member of Varsity Basketball, Chorale and Origin. I then went on to the glory land of Waco, TX and received my degree from Baylor University in 1996 with a major in Speech-Language Pathology. After living in Austin from 1997 to 2004, we moved back home to Midland to raise our three children. Elaine and I immediately re-joined FBC and over the years became Sunday School Directors, GA and RA Directors, Acteens and Challengers Directors, Upward Coaches and were involved in many other ministries here at FBC…it was through these ministries and prayers from our congregation that we felt and followed God’s amazing call into ministry.

Tell us about your family.

Elaine and I have known each other since we were children while growing up at FBC. We began to date in our early 20’s and soon thereafter were married. We have three pretty cool children. Their names are Aubrie, Daniel and Luke. All three are strong believers, love the Lord their God and were all baptized at FBC, Midland… just like their Mom and Dad. They have been involved in FBC’s Pre-School Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Student Ministry and of course, Activities Ministry. As stated before, I was born and raised in this church. I am following in my father’s footsteps by being on staff…Charlie Elliott was the Minster of Activities at our church from 1967 to 2004, and I was raised in the Activities Building.

Other than the Bible, what’s your favorite book?

Lonesome Dove

What’s your favorite vacation spot?

We have two vacation spots that are our favorite… As a family, we love to go to Paisano Baptist Encampment. We believe General Week at Paisano is a piece of heaven. It is a week that we have not missed in 15 years and hope to attend for the next 50! We also love to go see my parents in their log cabin in the mountains of Colorado. God has blessed our family with this cabin outside of Crested Butte. After our hectic and wonderful summer schedule, we go spend a week in the mountains every August.

What do you do for fun?

My hobby in life is to be with Elaine and follow Aubrie, Daniel and Luke all over the state to watch them play basketball.

What is the best thing about FBC?

I think the best thing about FBC is our dedicated focus on children and youth to bring a deep understanding of who Jesus is and what it should and could mean to have a real relationship with Him. We continue to have programs for all ages like Sunday School, Mission Friends, RA’s, GA’s, Acteens and Challengers to pour into our kids in order to show them what it means to walk with Christ every day and how to live out true discipleship.

What’s the best thing about what you do?

I tell people all the time that I have the greatest job on earth! I am so blessed to get to do what I love each and every day. My entire purpose in life is to tell people about the Love of Jesus, have Basketball and Flag Football Leagues, have Day Camps and Sports Camps for youth and children, plan fun and exciting trips for people of all ages and run and maintain The AB…the place in which I have lived my life since I was an infant. I don’t know how I got so lucky, but I am truly blessed.

What would you say to someone to encourage them in their spiritual journey?

I would start by reading together 1 Corinthians 15:58. It is a verse that has helped change and mold my life… "Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know your labor in the Lord is not in vain." God wants us to live out our faith and to be strong and bold…the way Jesus was. I would say that as Christians we are not called to sit back and watch the world go by, but rather we are to go out and love, laugh, work and show and tell people how awesome our God is through not only our words but through our actions as well.
